Overview

Our vision is to become a missional church meeting the emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of people in Jesus’ name. The following staff position supports that vision by strengthening awareness, connection, and participation at the Port Perry and Bowmanville sites through clear and effective communication.

The Communications Coordinator provides on-the-ground communications support for both locations, leading through clarity, consistency, and strong relational presence. This role helps ensure the life of the site is visible and accessible, stories are told well, and events are communicated clearly. 

Reporting to the Communications Director for church-wide alignment, the role works closely with the respective site teams while upholding central shared strategy, standards, and priorities.

This is a part-time hybrid role (20 hours per week). This role requires availability on select Sundays and church holidays (e.g. Christmas Eve, Easter Sunday), and during the workweek. In-person work is required at our flagship site in Ajax on Wednesdays, and regular in-person Sunday presence will be focused on content capture and building serve teams in Port Perry and Bowmanville. The rate of pay is between $21 - $25/hr, commensurate with experience. This role requires reliable access to transportation.

Responsibilities

Content Creation & Local Communications Support

  • Capture and edit photo and short-form video content that reflects the life, people, and gatherings at the site.
  • Support consistent, timely social content that helps people become aware of and engage with what’s happening in Port Perry and Bowmanville.
  • Assist with assembling and proofreading the site newsletters as needed.
  • Exercise good judgment and initiative when capturing and preparing content, escalating questions or approvals as needed.
  • Ensure all content and messaging align with church-wide brand and voice standards.

Serve Team Development & Leadership

  • Help establish and sustain a site-based creative serve team responsible for capturing and editing local content.
  • Personally handle content capture and editing until the local serve team is active and trained.
    • Once the serve team is established, the successful candidate will coordinate scheduling and provide ongoing shepherding and support through encouragement, clarity, and care.
  • Build trust and relational momentum with serve team members through consistent communication and follow-through.
  • Coordinate local creative team rhythms, including local team nights or gatherings in both Bowmanville and Port Perry, in alignment with church-wide initiatives.
  • Help connect local serve team members into central creative team training, team nights, and culture- and vision-setting initiatives.
  • Model reliability, ownership, and a healthy team culture through day-to-day leadership and presence.

Ministry Event Promotion

  • Publish and maintain accurate event listings for the site across digital platforms (website, social, email) once required details are provided
  • Coordinate communications and promotion next steps, including listings, newsletter inclusion, printing needs, and day-of content capture where appropriate

Education and Experience

Education:

Degree or diploma in a related field is helpful; related lived experience also accepted.

Experience

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience that includes communications, content creation, event marketing, volunteer management, or similar is ideal. Employment experience is preferred but volunteer experience with the above is also accepted.
  • Experience with photo/video capture and basic social editing tools (CapCut, Instagram Edits) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Sanctus Church is strongly preferred; otherwise, familiarity with church or community-based environments is helpful.

While not required, a portfolio of previous work is extremely helpful to help showcase your abilities.

  • Some combination of administration, helps, discernment, and shepherding are ideal
  • Other gifts (especially leadership, exhortation) are more than welcome.
