Context
Our vision is to become a missional church of 10,000 meeting the emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of people in Jesus’s name. The following staff position is critical in helping Sanctus execute on the fulfillment of that vision.
Role
We are seeking a Teaching Pastor to be a secondary preaching/teaching voice alongside the Senior Pastor. This individual is a gifted and confident communicator of God’s Word. They will be someone who thrives in collaboration, embraces shared teaching, and joyfully serves under the leadership and overall vision of the PLT.
The right leader will also be a gifted writer and thinker who is committed to the Apostles’ and Nicene creeds, and to our church’s ministry philosophy and theology. Though a major focus of this position is preaching and teaching, we also recognize that every pastor brings unique strengths. Depending on experience, passion, calling and gifting, the successful candidate may have the opportunity to lead or develop other ministry areas within the church, which will round out this position.
The salary for this role is between $60,000 = $90,000/year, commensurate with relevant experience and education.
Depending on the scope of the role, determined by the candidate's experience, passion, and gifting in addition to prompting and prayer, the role would be 20-40 hours per week. Our expectations for the candidate are as follows:
- To be and become a fully devoted follower of Christ and live with character and integrity.
- To be fully aligned and working towards the mission and vision of Sanctus Church and embody the staff values; humility, honour, unity, excellence, fully devoted and joy.
- To demonstrate spiritual maturity and have the ability to lead in a growing church environment.
- Has the capacity and availability to preach 15+ times annually.
- Collaborate creatively with the Senior Pastor to build preaching series, study resources, and training curriculum for a growing multisite church.
- Be a brainstorm/study partner to the Senior Pastor.
- Train staff and lay leaders in preaching, teaching, and biblical theology alongside the Senior Pastors and develop preaching cohorts.
- Help to shape church and staff culture (this person must be a good leader and communicator who can cast vision, build unity, and cultivate gospel culture).
- Has a working knowledge of Sanctus Church’s history, ministries, and core resources; Convergence and Deliverance.
- Unified in Sanctus's “voice” from the pulpit, without stifling healthy differences in personality, temperament, and style.
- To have a passion that both Christians and seekers/skeptics can hear God's Word through preaching and teaching.
In preparation for this role, candidates are asked to review:

During the interview process:
- Candidates will be asked to outline their theological views on secondary issues
- Opportunity for preaching at Sanctus Church in alignment with spiritual gifts.
- Prepares sermons grounded in and driven by the biblical text, through which will invite hearers to surrender their lives to Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord and to incarnate the message of the biblical text.
- Speaks persuasively, authentically, and prophetically.
- Work closely with the Senior Executive Pastor on other specific projects, conferences or pastoral duties as required.
Evaluation and Accountability
The Teaching Pastor will be evaluated on both ministry effectiveness and leadership alignment. Evaluation will be ongoing through coaching and feedback conversations, with a formal review conducted annually. Primary areas of assessment include:
- Preaching and Teaching Effectiveness — evaluated by the PLT through feedback on biblical faithfulness, clarity of communication, spiritual impact, and congregational engagement.
- Partnership and Collaboration — evaluated by the Snr. Pastor through observed teamwork, communication, and shared leadership in vision and teaching.
Team and Mission Alignment — evaluated by the Executive Team based on contribution to staff culture, participation in collaborative initiatives, and alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Sanctus Church.
- A wise, mature Christian who conforms in private and in public to the biblical qualifications for leadership and eldership outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–15 and Titus 1:6–9.
- Deep personal godliness; rich communion with the Father, Son, & Holy Spirit.
- Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Ministry or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Preference will be given to candidates with the following profile:
- 5+ years of congregational ministry experience, including preaching and leadership responsibilities
- Devoted to “... the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.”
- (1 Timothy 4:13; cf. 4:14, 15-16; 2 Timothy 2:13-14, 4:2)
- Familiarity with Sanctus Church
- Experience working in a multi-site/ large church context is an asset
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-caliber team environment is an asset
- Able to provide a minimum of 3 character and professional references.
Some combination of Preaching/Teaching, Leadership or Shepherding, Discernment, Evangelism, Exhortation. Other gifts are welcome.
