Transcript

I grew up in the Catholic church and my family was extremely involved, so it was a really big part of my life.
I didn’t grow up with any faith of my own and I never really expected to fall in love with someone who was religious.

As time went on, we ended up having two kids. When our son was born, we decided we would try our best to spend as much time with them as possible. What was really good was that we built these amazing, beautiful, rich relationships with our children. But it was taxing on our marriage. We weren’t talking to each other, we didn’t spend time together, and we didn’t take that time to reconnect or gain that back.

At the same time, I had started to feel this longing, like I was searching for more purpose and more meaning in my life. So last spring, while we were going through all of these struggles, I decided to take a step and sign up for Alpha.

Things were going well and she thought it might be something I’d be interested in. I figured if she was going to have the computer open anyway, I might as well sit with her and see what it was all about.

We were going through such a rough patch that we literally started on opposite ends of the couch. But the conversations, the videos, and the group we were with were so supportive and encouraging. They created space for deep and meaningful conversations. We slowly moved closer to each other throughout the Alpha journey.

The greatest thing continuing after Alpha is that we’ve made time for each other now. We continue those faith-based conversations outside of Alpha, and it lets us connect on another level that we didn’t have before.

It’s completely changed my perspective on life. I have a new level of hope that I didn’t have before.
It’s just such a great feeling knowing that someone always has your back.
