If I Can Warn Strangers About a Mop… Living Out the Spiritual Gift of Evangelism

I discovered I had the gift of evangelism just as I was growing in my faith. There was just this desire building up all the time just to talk to everybody about Jesus and share my faith. You know, like you have this great relationship with this incredible Jesus, like how could you not? It's just like this overflow that comes from being in relationship with Him, that you just want to tell others.

Many years ago, I bought a mop of all things and I didn't like it. It didn't work very well, not as advertised. So I took it back to the store, got a refund, and then I went back to the mop section to look for something better. And I saw a couple buying the same mop, not the one I had returned, but the same one. And I was like, I cannot let them do that, like I just can't. That would be so wrong to let them buy something that I know is subpar. And it was like this conviction. And I went over to these random people and I'm like, "Excuse me, I just want to let you know that this mop is not going to help you clean your floors the way you think it will."

And I left there going, wow, if I can walk up to random strangers with this strong conviction that a mop is so important, then I have to be able to do that for the gospel and not worry. Because they could have been rude, they could have been like, "We don't care," but it was that important. So I kind of just asked God at that time, like, can I have that boldness and that conviction to share You with others?

Once I started using my gift of evangelism and looking for those opportunities to share the gospel, you see them everywhere. You see the need for people to know Jesus and to have that peace and to have that joy, that hope, everything that comes from knowing Him. It's about looking for those opportunities and asking God, who do You want me to show Your love to today? And really being intentional to see those opportunities, because they're there. They're everywhere.

When you meet somebody and you are feeling that prompting or that urge or that desire to share the gospel, to talk to them about Jesus, it's kind of like you hear it. It's loud, it's this desire, this urge. And I think if you don't do it and you walk away, then you really have this regret. Like, oh, I missed it. I missed that opportunity. And you can trust that God is pursuing that person. So He's going to send somebody else or maybe even give you the opportunity again. But yeah, you can feel it. You can feel it.

I believe everything we do is our witness. Somebody's watching. We don't even know that they're watching us. We are His image bearers. We are the hands and feet of Jesus. We might be the only person that they encounter that gets to share the gospel with them. It's a great honour and responsibility. So yeah, it really does affect the way I live my life and every encounter I have.
